2nd GRADE

Second-grade students grow in their independence and take responsibility for learning through inquiry, discussion, and reflection. Students build on literacy skills learned in first grade to help them become fluent readers with strong comprehension skills. Students are taught how to classify information and connect ideas in three-part stories with an emphasis on writing skills. Students in the second grade take part in discussions and activities that focus on respect, making wise choices, relationships with others, and the importance of following God’s commands. A variety of teaching strategies are used in mathematics to help them develop abstract thoughts. STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) activities are a significant piece of this program. Second graders have opportunities to take part in Music, Art, PE, and Media Lab.  STEAM activities are integrated throughout the curriculum.
