PHYSICAL EDUCATION & HEALTH
Our bodies are vessels that carry the Spirit of God and being the temples they are, we must care for them in such a way that reflects God's glory. Understanding how our bodies work, how to maintain them, and how to appropriately use them are all essential to living a full life.
In PE, students will learn to stretch their understanding of what their bodies are capable of. As individuals, this is incredibly empowering, as it helps students become self-aware and more respectful of others. Teamwork is a very important aspect of PE as well, as students learn to work together towards one common goal. The skills they develop (communication and comradery) in order to succeed will be lessons they can carry with them for the rest of their lives. Regarding competition, we don't teach our students to conquer, but instead to sharpen. Competition is a great opportunity to do what the Apostle Paul teaches us to do, which is to compete with oneself. Competing awards us the amazing honor of pushing each other (even the other team) to do better.
In Health class, the students learn how to take care of their bodies, to be in-tune with them, and to respect one another. By having a greater understanding of the many functions each part of their body has, they will learn how to more appropriately use them in ways that build up and love. Students will exit their experience at LCA with an understanding of healthy habits, communal health, self-care, and how to rely on God and others for their health-needs.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies."
