LCA Senior Earns National Recognition

LCA senior, Kathryn Monsma, was announced as a National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalist. Kathryn was one of 16,000 students honored across the country for the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. To be considered for this program, students must take the Preliminary SAT/ National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) as a junior. The pool of Semifinalists represents less than 1% of seniors across the entire United States.

Kathryn has worked hard over the past 6 years she has attended LCA, and this award is a testament to her determination for academic excellence. Beyond her academic achievements, Kathryn is also very involved both in school and church activities. On any given day, you can find Kathryn practicing lines for the spring drama production, leading chapel as a member of our Student Worship Arts Team, singing in the choir, or playing her trombone. Outside of the school walls, Kathryn serves on her church’s praise team, creative ministry team, and recently traveled to the Dominican Republic for a mission trip.

This mission trip was a formative experience for her and helped give insight to her next steps after graduating from LCA. Kathryn plans on attending Taylor University to pursue a degree in Global Studies and a minor in English as a Second Language. She has many plans to help people around the world but is still listening to God’s direction in her life as to what that exactly looks like. At the end of the day, Kathryn wants to spread the Gospel wherever God leads her.

We are incredibly proud of Kathryn being named a National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalist and being recognized nationally for her outstanding academic performance.
